7.1. Five Years of Civil Legislation Reform: Preliminary Results and Future Potential

Wednesday, May 15
09:30 - 11:30

Hall #5, General Staff Building (6-8, Dvortsovaya sq.)

At present, the process of reforming civil legislation which was launched by the issuance of Decree of the President of Russia No. 1108 from July 18, 2008 'On improvement of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation' continues.

A number of federal laws which are separate parts of a single bill (Draft No. 47538-6) have already been adopted and enacted (at different point of times and in different time frames, respectively).

This has made it possible to make a number of changes aimed at small, purely 'technical' corrections of some regulations, as well as the process of bringing the Civil Code of the Russian Federation into line with changed realities, and at unification of the legislation effective in Russia with the legislation of European countries with highly developed civil law legal systems.

It is an important fact that, in the last few years, large-scale corporate law reforms have been carried out in the Russian Federation.

One of the major questions that will be posed to the members of the round table is what positive effects from the reform of the civil code can already be observed now.

As part of the round table, members will discuss the results of the reform and the highlights for the future. Have the reform's goals been achieved? What is the direction of law enforcement and common law practice and to what extent is the idea of the legislator implemented in it? What aspects require further changes at the legislation level?

Among the round table members are well-known Russian and foreign experts in the area of law, representing both state authorities and large companies in Russia and abroad.

The event will be interesting to state and private investors, Russian and foreign companies and entities, representatives of government authorities, and to the general expert community.
