The X St. Petersburg International Legal Forum to welcome UNCITRAL CISG@40 celebrations on 20 May, 2020

As a part of the X St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPBILF), UNCITRAL together with the International and Comparative Law Research Center (Moscow, Russian Federation) will hold a Conference to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, 1980 (CISG); on 20 May 2020.

CISG is a fundamental treaty of the international trade framework and one of the most successful instruments of UNCITRAL. It has already been adopted by 93 States and is among the most influential sources for domestic and regional contract law reform globally. Learn more about the CISG at https://uncitral.un.org/en/cisg40.

UNCITRAL is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the adoption of the CISG with a series of events across the globe to promote further accessions, and to encourage the use and uniform interpretation of the CISG, building on a significant and constantly increasing volume of case law.

It is anticipated that the Conference agenda at SPBILF 2020 will cover a number of topics on the present status and possible future developments of the CISG such as:

  • The use and uniform interpretation of the CISG;
  • The CISG and the digital economy;
  • The CISG as a source for regional and domestic law reform.

“The St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPBILF) provides an excellent platform to engage on a regional and global discussion on the CISG. A joint event during the SPBILF 2020 will further improve the visibility of the CISG and its State parties and enable discussions on the Convention, namely its application in all regions and its interpretation through case law”, - commented UNCITRAL Secretariat.
