My first impression is very good. Both the chorus and the voices sound very clearly. The brilliant onyx decoration which adorns the lobby, the hall, three small halls with splendid acoustics, the most advanced technologies without parallels in our country, comfortable premises will be highly appreciated by both actors and audience.
In keeping with the best Forum’s traditions, we have created an exclusive activities package for our guests to suit even the most discerning taste.
On the 15th of May after the Plenary session the Forum’s guests were invited to visit St. Isaac’s Cathedral, a gorgeous Late Neoclassical monument built in
On the same day the Forum participants were invited to visit the opening night performance in the Mariinsky theatre, a real treasure-house of the renowned opera and ballet masterpieces. The New Theatre whereinto the audience was invited is remarkable for its incomparable acoustics and magnificent equipment which has no analogues in Russia and allows staging even the most technically difficult performances. The guests could also appreciate the interiors of precious onyx, the exquisite illumination and the amphitheater on the roof which will become a stage for the 20th The White Nights Stars festival.
We are on the Palace Square. And this is not only the museum, beauty, comfort; for us it is foremost important to be the participants of the Forum with a particular aim and goal. For the first time we will discuss the breakthrough questions, issues of cultural law. We do hope the Forum will develop these ideas.
Meanwhile the admirers of the ballet art enjoyed the one act performances “The Rites of Spring” and “The Prodigal Son” on the New Stage, the worshipers of opera appreciated the classical opera masterpiece — “Eugene Onegin” by Piotr Tchaikovsky — in the renowned old building of the Mariinsky theatre.
On May 16 our guests had an unforgettable evening boat trip along channels and rivers which is a real hallmark of the city. During this water tour one could not only admire the city views, but also visit Yusupov Palace, Derzhavin Estate Museum, and the Church of our Savior on the Spilled Blood open in the evening time specially for the Forum delegates.
Another compliment for our participants was an exclusive evening opening of the State Hermitage so that after the workshops the guests could enjoy the richness of unique collections and gorgeous interiors of one of the most splendid world museums.
The excursion programme was also rich and various. Apart from the free basic tours included into the delegate package, the whole range of additional activities was invented exclusively for the delegates and taking place in St. Petersburg for the first time.
On May 17 during the gala dinner the Organizing Committee released a special surprise: the world famous mime Slava Polunin carried audience away from the spring day straight to the bewitching Christmas eve.
Slava Polunin’s “Snow Show” has gained popularity among the audience of all ages from around the world.
What Is My Kind of Theatre or The Theatre I Love? It is a theatre of ritual magic and festive pageantry constructed on the basis of images and movements, games and fantasies that are the common creation of the audience and the people of the theatre.
Perhaps, the secret of its success is frankness and sincerity of the creator: Slava Polunin often speaks of the theatralization of life; with the help of his performance he brings a fairy tale into a daily routine. “What I would like to do, Slava confesses, is to dissolve boundaries between art and life”.
“Snow Show” is a number of comic and tragicomic pantomimes covering the widest range of emotions.
Slava Polunin and his clowns suggest the audience getting into a game, a wonder story, a fantasy which is not always funny but can find the way to every heart. The music helps to achieve this aim, from the touching lyric pieces of Vangelis (La petite fille de la mer) to the movement О, Fortuna, with its choir and orchestra „fortissimo”, from a famous Carl Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana.
For almost 20 years „Snow Show” has been melting down the hearts of its admirers with its white snow falling from the stage, and people do come again and again not only to see the performance but to discover something new in themselves as well.
