The II St. Petersburg International Legal Forum has finished in St. Petersburg. It was held in the Eastern Wing of the General Staff building and in the pavilion that was specially built for this event in the very heart of St. Petersburg - Palace Square from May 16 till May 19.
St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was established in 2011 by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Fedration and is supported by the President of the Russian Federation. Forum 2012 was organized by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, Supreme Commercial Court of the Russian Federation, State Hermitage Museum, and St. Petersburg International Legal Forum Foundation. Forum's general partner is Gazprombank OJSC. Organization of the Forum was carried out at the expense of sponsorship funds.
Forum 2012 was attended by over 2,000 delegates from 51 countries. Delegations of 13 countries were headed by the Ministers of Justice, including those of the USA, the UK, People’s Republic of China, Iceland, Poland, Morocco, Hungary, CIS member states, etc.
The Forum hosted the Plenary Session "Legal Policy in the 21 Century: New Legal Challenges in the Global World", 38 roundtable discussions on various legal issues, several satellite events, including a conference "Modernization of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation" and a meeting "Mechanisms of Realization of Open Government Initiative in a Legal System" as well as the entertainment programme. In addition to that, II St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was the venue for the signing of a number of international agreements aiming to promote Russia’s cooperation in the legal sphere with such countries as Poland, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Iceland, etc.
